This small program in the Quarabagh district of Kabul is for women who have completed the Village Life Skills training, particularly widows with large families. Food insecurity is as high as 40% in Afghanistan so this aims to address this and to provide better nutrition for families.
With the practical support of the Provincial Governor and local village leadership, land was secured for the erection of greenhouses. After initial hiccups with snowfall damage, the program is demonstrating great value and women are growing grow nutritious crops as well as flowers that they can sell.
The next stages of this pilot will teach food processing, preservation and marketing.
This program has been funded to date by Cabrini Mission and AADO’s fundraising.
